Our History

Maine Passive House was founded by Danish native Jesper Kruse.  In 2006, while spending a year in Denmark with his young family, Jesper heard about the passive house standard.  He realized that the energy savings associated with passive house construction, as well as the increased comfort, healthfulness and longevity of the homes would be the wave of the future.  When he returned to the U.S., Jesper formed Maine Passive House, and became a certified passive house consultant.

Ten years later Maine Passive House is a national leader in passive house design and construction and has developed proven systems that are uniquely designed for the northern climate.

The most important asset to any business is its employees.  Maine Passive House strives to create a healthy and safe work environment where employees are respected as part of a team and compensated fairly.  We enjoy working together, share a love of building and enjoy seeing happy clients in their new homes.

Our strengths lie in mastering traditional craftsmanship, having a thorough knowledge of building science, and meticulous planning and organization.

Maine Passive House is recognized as a leader in the passive house community and constantly work to further our knowledge of the latest techniques, materials and developments.  Maine Passive House has two certified passive house consultants on staff and we are corporate members of PassivhausMAINE and the North East Sustainable Energy Association.

Having built everything from passive house ski chalets to modern homes to barns and rustic cabins, Maine Passive House works in the western Maine area, primarily within a 45 minute radius of Bethel, Maine. This includes, but is not limited to, Newry, Bethel, Norway, Harrison, Waterford, Mt. Abram, Greenwood, Oxford, Woodstock, West Paris, Rumford, Lovell, Stoneham, Gilead, and the Sunday River valley.

We knew we were on to something wonderful when our architects were excited about the
prospect of working with Maine Passive House. Designing and building a new, energy efficient home had been our dream for years, and the incredibly talented crew at Maine Passive House were able to make it happen. From the initial blueprints to the last trim, they were on site and available for all of our questions and concerns. We loved working with Maine Passive House and their subcontractors—not many homeowners can honestly say that they miss seeing their builder around, but we felt like Jesper, Matt, Alex and the rest of the crew were our friends and were as invested in the process as we were. We are toasty warm and couldn’t be happier.
