Maine Passive House Barn
FRom eyesore to space barn
Location: Bryant Pond, ME
Year Completed: 2021
Gross Floor Area: 5,160SF

Located on Main Street in Bryant Pond, this historic barn was purchased by Maine Passive House in 2019 to serve as shop space and material storage. While it needed substantial work, we saw its potential and slowly began renovations starting with a new roof and added insulation, followed by the installation of a 17kW Solar Array system on the south facing roof. In addition, we significantly improved the building's air-tightness, achieving a blower door test result of 0.8 ACH50 and upgraded the exterior with continuous EPS insulation, new windows and doors, and recycled aluminum shake siding. The result is a transformed structure that showcases the potential of deep energy retrofits
